MediaPort is a local non-profit media outlet in Kharkiv, Ukraine. We do not sell advertising, we do not sell data, and we have no commercial interest in knowing more about you than we need to run the website.
This document explains in plain language what data the site collects, why, and what rights you have.
What we do NOT do
Before explaining what we do, let us list what we don’t:
– We do not show banner advertising on the site. No Google AdSense, no third-party banner networks, no automated ad placements.
– Sponsored and partner content is a separate, clearly labeled category (“РЕКЛАМА”, “Promo” or “Partner material”) governed by our Commercial Policy: mediaport.ua/commercial/
– We do not sell your data to third parties.
– We do not pass your email or contact details to advertisers.
– We do not have user registration. No account is needed to read MediaPort.
– We do not run a newsletter. We do not collect emails for any list.
– We do not use Facebook, TikTok or other social-network tracking pixels for marketing.
– We do not profile readers for ad targeting.
What we collect and why
1. Anonymous traffic analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics to understand which stories readers find useful, where they read MediaPort from, and whether the site is performing well.
Analytics sees: approximate geolocation by IP (country, city), device type (phone, tablet, computer), browser, language, time on page, referring source.
Analytics does NOT see your name or email, because we do not ask for those at all.
If you do not want to be in analytics, click “Decline” in the cookie consent banner at the bottom of the site. Trackers will not load.
2. Google News (integration via Reader Revenue Manager)
On single article pages we load a Google News script called Subscribe with Google (swg-basic.js). It exists for two purposes:
– to attribute your readings to the MediaPort publication in Google News (this affects how often and where the Google News service shows our publication);
– to allow a call-to-action button “Become a Земляк” to appear under the article, leading to our Спільнота community on monobank.
The Google News script sees: your IP, the article URL, the referring link, and the fact of impression and click on the button. This is not advertising and not personalized targeting — Google uses this data for statistics of its News service and for attributing our publications.
If you decline cookies / marketing scripts in the consent banner at the bottom of the site, the Google News script does not load, and the button does not appear under articles.
Clicking the “Become a Земляк” button opens a page on monobank.ua, where monobank’s privacy policy applies.
3. Article comments
If you leave a comment, we store: your name (as entered), email (for moderation, not published), comment text, date, your IP.
Your comment together with your name becomes public. Email and IP are visible only to the editorial team and are used for spam prevention.
4. Server technical logs
Like any website, our server logs requests: IP, time, requested page, browser. This is required to detect attacks and fix errors. Logs are retained up to 30 days.
5. Cloudflare
The site runs through Cloudflare (CDN), which filters DDoS attacks and accelerates page load. Cloudflare sees your IP when you open mediaport.ua. This is a necessary part of how the site operates.
6. Embedded videos and posts
If an article contains an embedded YouTube video, Telegram post, or Facebook post, those platforms may set their own cookies during viewing. These are their cookies, not ours, and their privacy policies apply alongside ours.
If you decline marketing cookies in our consent banner, such embedded blocks will not load without your separate consent.
Data controller
The data controller under GDPR is the MediaPort editorial team.
